CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Colin Scanlon ran a 52.02 in the 400-meter hurdles, breaking his own program record by over a half-second and recording the fastest time in Division III this season, to highlight the performance of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team on Saturday at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
His 52.02 surpassed his previous mark of 52.57, which he set at the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational last year, and won the race by over two seconds. It also was .17 faster than the previous best time in NCAA Division III this season, set by Levi Biery of Colby on March 27.
Kaden Cassidy came in second, and was the top collegiate finisher, in the hammer throw with a distance of 185'2", finishing just two feet, four inches behind unattached thrower Joshua Tan.
George Kruger was second in the javelin with a throw of 190'4", finishing behind only Jarrett Chong of Division II Simon Fraser.
Jacob Pippel earned a runner-up finish in the steeplechase, and was the top collegiate finisher, with a 9:29.38, just .05 behind unattached runner Micah Watson.
Ellis DelVecchio was fifth out of 68 runners in the 800 meters with 1:51.52, while
Max Even came in sixth in the 200 with a 21.98.
Jaden Rattay was eighth in the 400 meters out of 33 competitors with a 49.18, while
Oliver Pick earned 10th in the 1500 meters (out of 117 runners) with a 3:53.05.
Eric Filson came in sixth in the long jump for CMS at 22'5.75", while
Jonathan Holcombe was ninth in the long jump (21'9.5") and the triple jump (42'3.5") for the Stags.
Emmett Stralka ran a 10.99 in the 100 to come in 18th out of 70, while
Adam Sage (18th) and
Ethan Wood (19th) earned top 20 finishes in the 5000 out of 47.
CMS will be back in action this week at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific, in its final tune-up before the SCIAC Championships at Occidental April 26-27.
