- The athletic training room (ATR) offers a wide variety of services, all to tend to the health care of the student-athletes of CMS. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, care, management of, and rehabilitation of illness and injury to return athletes to play as quickly and as healthy as possible.
- It is the athlete’s responsibility to communicate with the sports medicine staff for appropriate and timely care and management of injuries and illnesses.
- You may seek care from any of our athletic trainers as a walk-in or by making an appointment with a specific staff member. Please come in and introduce yourself and let us know how we can assist you. The athletic trainer will guide you through specific treatments to aid in your recovery.
- Generally, the busiest times in the ATR are from 2:30pm-4:30pm. The best times to see the athletic trainers are in the mornings or early afternoons.
- Treatments and rehabs are available 8am-6pm during the week. On weekends, the ATR is available for in-season events only, and will open 1 hour before the earliest reporting time for practices or contests.
- Injury ice is always available from the ice machine on the arena level of Roberts Pavilion next to the staircase or inside the ATR during staffed hours.
- If your injury requires further care, a staff member will assist in scheduling you to meet with our team physicians or for imaging services.
- If you or someone you know are struggling with mental health, the CMS Mental Health Resource Guide can be found here. Any member of the sports medicine staff can help navigate mental health needs.
- CMS Sports Medicine has been partnering with graduate students from an accredited program who are studying mental performance and sport psychology. They are available to meet 1-on-1 with athletes who are struggling with the effects of injuries. If you would like to schedule an appointment, ask a sports medicine staff member how to do so.
- If you have questions about nutrition or are wanting to improve your knowledge or practice of performance nutrition as an athlete, Jesse Purcell is a certified nutrition coach and is available through our office for one-on-one sessions.
- Remember, the sports medicine staff is there to support you throughout your recovery journey, so don't hesitate to reach out if you need assistance.

Student employees are utilized in all areas; contact Jeremy or Logan if you are interested in working.
- Non-event day responsibilities include updating website content, including web stories, press releases, historical information, and student-athlete bio information and videos, creative social media and video projects, producing gameday programs, and maintaining the department’s video and photo archives (from promotional “media days” and event days).
Strength and Conditioning
Contact: Andrew Jones,
andrew.jones@cms.claremont.edu
- The CMS Strength and Conditioning team develops and implements sport-specific training strategies for all NCAA varsity athletic teams. Generally, we focus on improving the student-athletes’ ability to perform their sport and tolerance to its demands. This is accomplished by focusing on speed, power, strength, change of direction ability, mobility, and tissue quality. We also provide general guidance regarding nutrition and health.
- Teambuildr: Every student-athlete receives a Teambuildr account that displays your training sessions and training data. Contact your S&C coach if you did not receive an account or need help accessing it. iPads are used during training sessions and are located at the weight room front counter. Ask your S&C coach for help if there are none available.
- Weight room schedule and usage: The weekly schedule is posted to the weight room corkboard every Sunday. If there is limited space in the weight room, or if you have any conflicts with the schedule, ask any S&C coach for help.
- Return to play: The S&C staff assists and consults Sports Medicine staff with return-to-play programs.
Equipment Room
Contact: Brian Smith,
Brian.Smith@cms.claremont.edu
- Practice Gear: Depending on your sport you will be issued 1 or 2 sets of practice gear.
- Uniforms: You will do a game uniform fitting before your scheduled media day. For most sports, uniforms will be issued on gameday and returned following your contest.
- Laundry: Depending on your sport you will be assigned and issued 2 laundry loops. Clean laundry should be picked up before practice. Dirty laundry can be dropped off after practice in one of the 4 laundry chutes located outside the equipment room labeled for your sport. Report any damage to your uniform or practice gear in need of repair.
- Department Awards: The awards are as follows, and based on years of participation as a rostered athlete: 1st Year Certificate, 2nd Year Fleece Jacket, 3rd Year Travel Bag and 4th Year Blanket. Fleece Jacket will be fitted when checking out practice gear during the 2nd year of participation. Only student-athletes who are members of the team for the entire year are eligible to receive the department award. Transfer athlete awards will begin with the 2nd year Fleece Jacket. Two sport athletes will receive only one set of awards; they will have their 2nd sport added to their awards at the competition of their second sport.
