GENEVA, Ohio -
Colin Scanlon came in second place in the 400-meter hurdles, and
Kaden Cassidy broke his own CMS record on his final attempt to come in second place in the hammer throw, to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team tie for 13th place at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute.
Scanlon and Cassidy earned first-team All-America honors for their runner-up finishes, while the 4x400 relay team of
Jaden Rattay,
Aiden Owens,
Ellis DelVecchio and Scanlon earned second-team All-America honors today by coming in ninth.
George Kruger and
Ellis DelVecchio earned second-team All-America honors earlier in the championships, by coming in 16th in the javelin and 14th place in the 800 meters, respectively.
Kaden Cassidy finished second on his last throw
Cassidy stood in ninth place, one spot off the first-am All-America podium, heading into his final throw. He fouled on his first two efforts, and his third and final attempt reached 195-7, placing him ninth and earning the final spot in the finals by just three feet over the 10th place thrower.
Making the top nine earned him three more throws, and his first two in the final round landed short of his 195-7 from prelims. However, on his final effort, he uncorked a throw of 210 feet even, surpassing his own CMS record (205'2") by almost five feet, which he set earlier this month at the Franson Last Chance Meet.
Cassidy was the first of two Stags to earn their way onto the second spot on the podium, as Scanlon also earned a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles. He ended with a time of 52.48, which was .22 behind champion Levi Berry of Colby and .15 ahead of third-place Alexander Swann of Middlebury.
Scanlon graduates off this year's team, but Cassidy and Kruger are just sophomores and will look to continue the recent success among Stag throwers, while DelVecchio and
Pierce Clark, who qualified in the 800 meters this season as well, will be returning, along with Owens and Rattay from the 4x400 relay team.
