CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Pierce McShane won the 400 IM for his second individual win in as many days,
Kenny Eckel won the 100 breast, and
William Jones took the 1650, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team dropped a two-day dual with Pomona-Pitzer 229-124 on Saturday at Haldeman Pool.
McShane won the 500 free on Friday and then came back for a narrow win in the 400 IM on Saturday, clocking a 3:57.15 to edge out Kyle Huang of Pomona-Pitzer (3:57.74). The time places him fourth all-time in CMS history, with the record of 3:55.61 set by Henry Limm in 2018.
Jones moved into fifth place in CMS history in the 1650 with a time of 15:51.85, winning by over 21 seconds ahead of Joe Dienstag of Pomona-Pitzer in 16:13.52..
Eckel added a tight win in the 100 breast by just four-hundredths of a second, winning in 56.16, just ahead of Jonathan Cong of Pomona-Pitzer in 56.20. He later added a second-place finish in the 200 breast in 2:04.27.
Jasper Shue added a second-place finish in the 100 fly in 49.67, taking over the No. 10 spot in CMS history, and also came in third in the 100 free in 45.44. which also places him tenth in Stag annals.
Jayden Kadiman was second in the 200 fly in 1:51.33.
Beckett Haywood was second in the three-meter dive with a 288.45, with
Logan Mansfield third and
Ethan Sattley fourth. The Stags capped off the meet with a narrow defeat in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Eckel,
Jack Beckman, Shue and
Sean Su clocked a 3:01.96, just .6 behind the Sagehens.
