SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team, ranked No. 15 in Division III, edged Division II Simon Fraser of British Columbia 103-101 in a double dual hosted by UC San Diego in its season opener on Saturday. The Stags also fell to host UC San Diego 125-72.
CMS opened the meet by defeating Simon Fraser in the 200 medley relay by over a second, as
Jeremy Tan,
Evan Deedy,
Jayden Kadiman and
Sean Su finished in 1:33.03.
Kenny Eckel picked up a key narrow win in the 200 IM over Evan Vellescig of Simon Fraser, by a 1:54.18 to 1:54.56 spread, with
Pierce McShane,
Lucas Williams and
Henry Lyons all coming in under two minutes as well.
Jasper Shue was third in the 100 free in 46.69 and
Jack Beckman came in fourth in 46.83, behind only two swimmers from Division I UC San Diego.
The dual with Simon Fraser came down to the final 400 free relay, and the CMS team of Tan, Eckel, Beckman and Su was able to win convincingly by over two seconds in 3:06.88.
CMS will be back in action in two weeks for a double dual with Azusa Pacific and Biola.
