CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Jonathan Holcombe won both the long jump and the triple jump to highlight the performance for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team on opening day at the OIDFE Challenge Meet at the Burns Track Complex.
Five other Stags won individual events as
Ellis DelVecchio captured the 600 meters,
Evan Siegel won the 60m hurdles,
Jonas Rickert took first in the mile,
Colin Scanlon was first in the 400 meters, and
Jason Bowman captured first in the weight throw.
Holcombe had a top jump of 6.29 meters in the long jump, over a quarter-meter over second place Trevor Bode of Vanguard who cleared six meters flat. His 12.33 distance in the triple jump earned the win by three-quarters of a meter over Siddhartha Shendrikar of Caltech.
Siegel led a 1-2-3 Stag finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.41 seconds, with
Joshua Martinez coming in second and
Isaiah Jeter in third. Rickert led another 1-2-3 CMS finish in the mile, finishing in 4:24.26, with Agustin Gomez De la Vega in second and
Ethan Wood in third.
DelVecchio took the 600 meters in 1:21.61, winning by almost four seconds over teammate
Matthew Jabro (1:25.14). Scanlon also won the 400 meters in over three seconds, clocking a 49.12, with
Dylan Gonzalez earning second in 52.65, while
Jason Bowman's 15.25 meters in the weight throw put him ahead of teammate
Kavin Prasanna in second (14.83 meters).
Max Even was a close second in the 200 meters in 22.09 seconds, just .03 behind Jonathan Krynicki of Vanguard. Louis DeLano was second in the 1000 meters in 2:36.67, just edging out teammate
Jacob Pippel in third in 2:36.75.
Leo Sundstrom was second in the pole vault at 4.69 meters, behind only Hunter Angove of The Master's University.
Eric Filson was third in the high jump at 1.70 meters.
CMS will be back in action on Feb. 15 when it competes in the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet.
