EAGLE ROCK, Calif. -
Elle Marsyla broke the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field record in the 5000 meters by running a 16:33.31 at the Occidental Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic on Saturday evening.
Marsyla's time broke the old school mark set eight years ago by national champion Bryn McKillop, who clocked a 16:36.17 in 2018. Marsyla surpassed her own personal best set two years ago by over 30 seconds, when she ran a 17:09.22 (although she did not run during track and field last year while studying abroad).
The Athenas also had the three top finishers among collegiate competitors, with
Riley Capuano clocking a 17:11.13 and
Hope Dragseth finishing in 17:13.10. Marsyla was third overall behind two runners from the Performance Elite Running Club.
Jie Yi Denise Chen was also tenth.
Saide Drucker came in fourth in the 1500 meters with a 4:46.42, placing second among collegiate runners behind only Rylee Guinn of Division I Loyola Marymount.
Sienna Faidi also came in seventh in 4:47.99.
Chloe Gudas earned a top-10 finish in the 800 meters with a 2:18.34.
CMS will be back in action on Friday when it competes at the Redlands Invitational.Â
