CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Oliver Pick moved up to second place in Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field history in the steeplechase with a 9:00.49 at the Occidental Invitational on Saturday evening, while moving above the cutline for NCAA qualification with two weeks left to compete.
Pick took seven seconds off his previous personal best of 9:07.49, set earlier this season at the Bryan Clay Invitational, and just missed joining record-holder
Hayden Beauchemin as the only Stags to break nine minutes.
Pick's time also moves him up to No. 18 in the nation this year in Division III, under the cutline of 22 in order to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships, with 10 days still left to compete.
Jonas Rickert also had a strong showing in the 1500 meters, setting a PR with a 3:51.50, edging his previous best of 3:51.64 set at the Triton Invitational earlier this year. Rickert stands 33rd in Division III so far this year, and will have two more chances to get into the top 22, where the time is currently 3:50.54.
The Stags will next compete at the Azusa Pacific Last Chance Invitational this weekend, before the Redlands Final Chance Meet on May 14-15. The NCAA Championships will be held May 22-25 in Geneva, Ohio.
