Stags Track and Field wins Fifth Straight SCIAC Title

CMS celebrates with the SCIAC Championship banner
EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team led wire to wire as it cruised to its fifth straight SCIAC title on Saturday and Sunday at Jack Kemp Stadium on the campus of Occidental College.

CMS finished with 202 points, well ahead of second-place Pomona-Pitzer with 148 points and Chapman in third with 135.

Colin Scanlon broke his own CMS record in the 400-meter hurdles and set a SCIAC Division III record with a 51.63 to highlight the individual performances for the Stags. The meet record was set by Doug Odell of Occidental in 1975 before the SCIAC went to the NCAA Division III format.

Scanlon also anchored the 4x400 relay to a first-place finish, joining Jaden Rattay, Aiden Owens, and Ellis DelVecchio in clocking a 3:14.10 to win by 3.44 seconds over second-place Pomona-Pitzer.

Emmett Stralka was a SCIAC Champion in the 100-meter dash with a 10.74, winning a tight race by two-hundredths of a second over Shane Kawakami-Williams of Occidental, and .03 over Gavin Doig of Pomona-Pitzer in third.

Rattay added an All-SCIAC performance in the 400 meters as well, coming in second with a 48.21, while DelVecchio was second in the 800 meters with a 1:50.83, while Pierce Clark also scored with a fourth-place finish. Joshua Martinez earned All-SCIAC honors by coming in second in the 110-meter hurdles, his third straight appearance on the podium.

Oliver Pick scored for CMS with a fourth-place finish in the 5000 meters, after coming in third in the steeplechase yesterday. Jonas Rickert scored for the Stags in the 1500 meters with a fifth-place finish, while Rowan Haywood-O'Neill scored by coming in eighth. Max Even, Rattay and Owens all scored in the 200 meters by coming in fifth, sixth and seventh.

Kaden Cassidy (fifth), Kavin Prasanna (sixth) and Vinny Kakani (eighth) all scored for CMS in the discus, while Grady Johnson (fourth) and Prasanna (sixth) scored in the shot put. Jonathan Holcombe scored with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump.

CMS will compete in several more events over the next three weeks, as the Stags will try to earn qualifying marks for the NCAA Division III Championships from May 23-25 in Geneva, Ohio.
