Julian Ortega will join the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer program as a goalkeeper coach for the 2025 season. 

Ortega has worked a a goalkeeper coach at Loyola Marymount for the past three seasons, helping the Lions to their first Elite Eight appearance in 2023. The postseason run included a 1-0 shutout win over No. 13 UCLA in the NCAA Tournament's second round.

LMU goalkeeper Massimo Pomponi tied the school record with eight shutouts in 2023, had a 1.03 goals against average and an .806 save percentage, and was twice named to the national team of the week. Prior to coaching at Loyola Marymount, Ortega worked as the goalkeeper coach at CSU Fullerton from 2021-22. 

In addition to his college experience, Ortega also founded the Institution of Surgical Goalkeeping, an academy focused on development and advancement of goalkeepers through a methodology that emphasizes technical, tactical, and mental values. He has also served as the director of goalkeeping for SoCal Elite FC in Chino since 2020.
