CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior first baseman Alex Henderson of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team earned second-team All-America honors from D3baseball.com, the website announced this morning.

Henderson adds All-America accolades to Region X Player of the Year honors from both the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com, as well as Athlete of the Year honors from the SCIAC. The ABCA will announce its All-America teams this weekend at the Division III nationals in Eastlake, Ohio.

Henderson batted .407 with 22 homers and 69 RBI for the Stags, setting a new program record for home runs in a season, and also a new CMS career record with 41 after only two years. He also added to his remarkable postseason resume with three two-homer games, two in the SCIAC Tournament and one in the rubber game of the Super Regionals against Johns Hopkins.

A year ago, Henderson hit 11 home runs in seven NCAA Tournament games, with two three-homer performances in the regionals to help the Stags to their first regional championship in program history, and one two-homer game in the Super Regionals.

Over the course of the season, Henderson had two 14-game hitting streaks, the second of which included the first seven postseason games for CMS (four in the SCIAC, and all three games of regionals).

CMS matched the program record for wins in a season with 35, set last year, and won its second straight NCAA Tournament Regional. The Stags also won the regular season SCIAC title for the first time since 1990.
