Athenas Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day with Sweep of Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team honored its two seniors, Brooke McKee and Shelby McIlroy, prior to the match and McKee finished it off with her 13th kill on match point as the Athenas earned a 25-18, 25-19, 25-16 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Friday evening in its regular season finale at Roberts Pavilion.

With the win, CMS secures the No. 2 seed in next week's SCIAC Tournament and will host a semifinal on Thursday night, while improving to 18-7 overall and 12-4 in the SCIAC. Pomona-Pitzer slips to 10-15 overall and 5-10 in the SCIAC.

McKee ended the match with 13 kills on 32 attempts and 11 digs, increasing her total for the season to 389, leaving her 11 shy of becoming the seventh player in CMS history to reach 400 in a season. She also increased her career total to 1124 kills, 13 behind former teammate Jenna Holmes for fourth place on the all-time CMS lost. McIlroy also saw action in all three sets on her Senior Day, contributing an assist on set point in the second set, to go along with a pair of digs.

Phoebe Shorney had 12 kills in 24 attempts for the Athenas, while Shae Delany had a double-double with 10 kills and 16 digs, while adding four aces. Mia Urosevic had 29 digs and Hayden Lin finished with 32 assists and 11 digs. Solvej Eversoll led CMS with five blocks and had nine kills in 17 attempts with one error for a .471 percentage.

CMS will be back in action for the SCIAC Tournament on Thursday night at 7 p.m., facing either Whittier or Cal Lutheran, whichever ends up with the No. 3 seed.
